Interface Prototyping:
The rough layout of the interface developed very quickly, with the eight switches (to turn on/off each particle voice) and the two sets of button + potentiometer being identified in the Pure Data proof of concept stage.
The two sets of button/potentiometer are grouped for two different playback modes. The first being ‘regular’ playback in which the user sets the duration of the particle decay, and then presses play to have it engage. The second mode is a ‘scrub’ setting - when the button is being pressed down, the potentiometer position controls where in the particle decay the instrument plays back. This mode allows users to identify specific moments and manually move to them.
